Conference on Solar energy and Biodiversity

Managing Impacts and Promoting Solutions

28 & 29 October
at NEWCAP Center in Paris

The Conference on Solar energy and Biodiversity (CSB) is an international event dedicated to the interactions between solar energy development and biodiversity.

As the first edition, CSB marks the launch of a newrecurring international forum, held every two years. Building on the experience of similar initiatives such as the Conference on Wind energy and Wildlife impacts (CWW), it aims to bring together researchers, industry professionals, policymakers, and other stakeholders from around the world.

The CSB provides a forum to share knowledge, explore emerging challenges, and develop science-based solutions to better integrate biodiversity considerations into solar energy projects. By fostering dialogue between science, industry, and public stakeholders, CSB seeks to support the sustainable development of solar energy while contributing to biodiversity conservation.

The Conference on Solar energy and Biodiversity (CSB2026) will take place in Paris, France, 28-29 October 2026.

The CSB 2026 is organized by an organizing committeeled by France renouvelables, the French professional federation that has been advocating for renewable electricity, including solar energy, for 30 years.

An international Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) is built so as to supportthe organizing committee in ensuring the highest scientific quality of theconference.

The 1th Conference on Solar energy and Biodiversity (CSB 2026) will take place in Paris, France, 28 and 29 October 2026.

Welcome Message from Anne-Catherine de Tourtier, President of France renouvelables

Deploying solar energy while respecting territorial and biodiversity challenges: a vital and possible challenge!

At France renouvelables, our daily commitment is to drive a responsible energy transition. As we face the dual crisis of climate change and biodiversity loss, the massive deployment of solar energy is not just an option, it is an absolute necessity to end our fossil fuel dependency and rapidly reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

The Conference on Solar energy and Biodiversity (CSB), held in Paris on October 28-29, embodies this ambition. It is an honor to host this event, which brings together the international community of solar professionals, scientists, and environmental experts to address one of the most significant challenges of our century.

While every human activity has an environmental footprint, the solar industry has reached a level of maturity where impacts are better understood and increasingly mastered. At the heart of our discussions will be eco-design,a practice now central to our industry. Whether through the rigorous application of the Mitigation Hierarchy (Avoid-Minimize-Restore-Compensate), the restoration of degraded lands, or the rapid rise of agrivoltaics, solar projects are proving they can integrate harmoniously into our landscapes without compromising ecological continuity.

Far from being a threat, solar parks are becoming powerful levers for preserving ecosystems and fostering multifunctional land use. However, to achieve this, we must streng then the synergy between scientific research and industrial expertise. The CSB is designed to be this unique platform for sharing innovative solutions, disseminating new knowledge and translating it into concrete action.

This conference will be an opportunity to exchange ideas, challenge misconceptions, and forge the collaborations necessary for an exemplary energy transition. I look forward to welcoming you to Paris to continue, together, designing the sustainable energy landscapes of tomorrow.

Anne-Catherine de Tourtier, President of France renouvelables

France renouvelables has been the voice of the renewable electricity sector for 30 years, and brings together more than 370 industry professionals across all value chains. We take a systemic view of the controllability of the power system, the development of storage and associated flexibilities. We formulate policy proposals and technical recommendations to improve the regulatory and economic framework for the successful development of the renewable energies sector in France.
